| ARTIST STATEMENT:
My body of work consists of watercolor, pencil or colored pencil, however, I have an interest in working in three dimensional forms and frequently experiment in various media expanding my depth of knowledge and skills.
Although I like to work in various forms and materials, watercolor has been my primary media for expression. The challenge of the materials, my passion for paper in all forms and the immediacy of the work all combine to bring me back to watercolors and rethink how to use them is new and alternative ways. Recently, I have been using completed watercolors, cut and shaped to build paper sculptural relief work.
I continually seek new media for expression. I have worked in ceramics, fabrics and silk batik. No matter what the media, I find the surface treatment my main focus. I also work with my best instincts on form and structure, allowing experimentation and development of an idea to work for me.
It is my objective to continue development of other media. The more I experiment and pursue avenues of expression, the better I can use these skills in my art work. I see my career as an artist, instructor and student of the arts continue to provide me with the joy of "creating". My daily challenge is to build creative time. I think creatively and mentally construck work, but setting aside time to see these ideas to fruition is a goal I continually strive to reach.
As a professional artist, I look to peers and colleagues to share interests, offer critical examination of work and support my endeavors. I find that working with other artists inspire me to reach for higher goals, reexamine methods and self-evaluate professional development. As artists work with others in related fields, each takes away what he/she needs. I have seen this work in my own classrooms and workshops. As a student, I have made myself available to course work that has altered my perception of my work and given me what I needed as an artist.
