Strokes of Genius

What a surprise to open up the May, 2016 issue of Ann Kullberg’s “Color, A Colored Pencil Magazine” to see my recent drawing, “Debutants”. Thank you Ann!

For Me?

While walking through  Union Square in 2009  I saw a table loaded with pretty packages from Beth’s Farm Kitchen. As much as I love jams and jelly’s,  it was the delightfully wrapped boxes that caught me eye. I quickly snapped a few photos, and once back home, I selected one to use as a reference for a colored pencil painting.

For Me?

                               For Me?

5 years later,  all my work is done in colored pencil.  Was it the ribbons?  The boxes?  What ever the magic, I have been coloring ever since. This past month, on a return visit to New York, I had the opportunity to meet the creator of my inspiration.

If you have the opportunity to visit Union Station, be sure to stop by and savor the unique jams and jelly’s created by Beth and her staff at Beth’s Farm Kitchen.  (bethsfarmkitchen.com)

Thank you Beth!  It was a real treat meeting you.

Obsolensence of Security

Obsolescence of Security

These antique locks made me think about security and how we make ourselves feel safe.  Today security requires other kinds of locks; and if we found one that works,  how long before it too is obsolete?
